Turkish citizen arrested in Georgia for attempting to smuggle large quantity of cocaine

The offenses are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment

Georgia’s law enforcement authorities have arrested a Turkish national accused of illegally purchasing, possessing, and attempting to bring a large amount of narcotic substances into the country.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, officers from the Central Criminal Police Department, together with staff from the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, detained M.A., a Turkish citizen born in 1958, at the Sarpi border crossing point.
During an inspection of a passenger bus driven by the suspect, officers discovered nearly 150 grams of cocaine hidden in the luggage compartment. The narcotics were detected with the help of a specialized scanning device, the ministry said.
The offenses are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment under Georgian law.
