Turkish citizen arrested at Tbilisi airport for attempted illegal import of psychotropic drugs

A Turkish citizen was detained at Tbilisi International Airport in Georgia’s capital for attempting to illegally import a large quantity of psychotropic substances, authorities said on Saturday.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said law enforcement officers seized 809 tablets containing psychotropic substances as evidence during an inspection of the suspect’s luggage.

The crime is punishable by up to 12 years in prison.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
