Police have seized a further 76 cryptocurrency mining machines during searches carried out in the municipality of Mestia, according to Georgia's Interior Ministry.

The ministry said the latest operation brings the total number of so-called "miners" confiscated as part of the investigation to 330.

Investigators alleged that the devices were being used to generate digital currency through the unlawful and large-scale consumption of electricity, allowing those involved to obtain illegal income.

According to the Interior Ministry, law enforcement officers are continuing investigative activities aimed at identifying additional individuals allegedly connected to the scheme and pursuing further legal action.

The crime carries a maximum penalty of up to three years' imprisonment.
