Tbilisi Samkharauli Forensics Bureau has responded to the recent statement of Georgia’s former PM Giorgi Gakharia that he will test for drugs abroad to prevent a provocation planned against him.
The Forensics Bureau has described the statement as ‘utterly damaging’ which ‘aims to discredit’ the bureau and its employees.
Gakharia, who left the PM’s post and the ruling Georgian Dream party back in February is now heading the For Georgia opposition party and is running for Tbilisi mayor.
His statement on the drug test comes following the calls of incumbent mayor Kakha Kaladze to his opponents to test for drugs which has caused controversy.
Gakharia says that ‘despite the tense election period I will find a day to fly in one of European clinics and test for drugs there.’
He claims that he had been informed of alleged provocation if he tested for drugs in Tbilisi.
