The Patriarchate of Georgia on Tuesday vowed to support the electoral choice that would ensure “long-lasting peace” for the nation, ahead of the Saturday’s general elections.

In its recent statement, the Church affirmed its “non-political stance”, emphasizing that while it cannot align itself with any political party, its commitment to fostering stability remained unwavering.

“Today, our country is passing an important road,” the statement highlighted, underlining the necessity of protecting national and religious values while also striving for the consolidation of the country and the preservation of sovereignty.

As elections approached, the Patriarchate urged the clergy to recognize their role in maintaining public unity and peace. “Let us pray so that the Lord may show mercy to our nation and, according to the words of the apostle, preserve the unity of the soul with the bond of peace,” the statement concluded, reflecting a call for calm in a politically charged atmosphere.
