Train collision in Tbilisi kills two railway employees

A double-decker Stadler train struck individuals near Peikrebi Street, in the outskirts of capital Tbilisi, on Tuesday.

The Emergency Medical Assistance Center’s press office told the press two individuals were found dead at the accident site. The train, which was en route from Batumi to Tbilisi, has come to a halt.

Georgian Railways has confirmed the deceased were railway employees performing scheduled maintenance work on the Didube-Avchala section of the track. The statement clarified that no passengers were injured in the collision.

Georgian Railways announced that a thorough investigation was underway, with investigative procedures currently being conducted at the scene. The Batumi-Tbilisi train is expected to resume its journey towards Tbilisi Central once mandatory procedures are complete.

The railway company expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended its condolences to the families of the deceased employees.
