Journalists and civil activists gathered outside the Georgian Public Broadcaster today, holding a demonstration under the slogans “Freedom for Mzia Amaghlobeli” and “Freedom for the Regime’s Prisoners.”

The protesters demanded the release of journalist and media founder Mzia Amaghlobeli and called on the Public Broadcaster to dedicate airtime to address pressing societal issues.

Carrying banners with various messages, participants emphasized the importance of press freedom, declaring, “No one can win a war against the media.”

Journalists described Amaghlobeli, the founder of Batumelebi, as a victim of an unjust system. They claim she is being held as a political prisoner and that her detention represents an attack on free speech.

Amaghlobeli was recently sentenced to pretrial detention by the Batumi City Court on charges of assaulting a police officer. Her colleagues and supporters deny the allegations, calling them politically motivated.
