Head of Georgia’s State Security (SSS) Grigol Liluashvili says that there is no need for his interrogation on the ‘leaked files’ case allegedly from his agency which concerns politicians, clerics and diplomats.
He says that if there is the need, the employees of SSS will be summoned for interrgonation.
Like other ruling Georgian Dream officials, Liluashvili hinted at the opposition’s involvement in the issue ‘which aimed to discredit the church.’
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated earlier today that the files ‘are fabrication and a direct attack on the church’ by the opposition.
He stated that similar to other countries, SSS and other state agencies ‘are eavesdropping individuals within the law.’
Georgian media outlets received a link to up to 30,000 files allegedly leaked from SSS on September 13 which contained personal data and pointed at various crimes.
An unidentified sender claimed that the files were illegally recorded by SSS under the Georgian Dream leadership.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case.
