The Georgian State Security Service (SSS) says that Director General of Mtavari Arkhi opposition-minded channel Nika Gvaramia had been warned of a possible attack against him and recommended him to take measures for personal security.

The agency says that another journalist could also be the target of the attack. However, SSS did not identify the journalist.

Gvaramia says that SSS informed him about the investigation back in August 2021 and asked him to keep the issue secret.

“Now the agency announced about the investigation itself,” Gvaramia says.

Gvaramia says that the investigation may serve the goal to threaten him and to assure the public that country’s former president Mikheil Saakashvili attempted the attack.

He claims that the SSS made the information public after they saw that Gvaramia had no plans to do it.
