Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić have discussed proposals that could limit the voting rights of future European Union member states, stressing the importance of closer cooperation among candidate countries.
During talks in Tbilisi on Tuesday, the two leaders reviewed recent remarks by Marta Kos suggesting that future EU members may not automatically receive the same voting rights as existing member states.
According to the Georgian parliament's press service, Papuashvili and Vučić agreed that, against the backdrop of ongoing debates over EU enlargement, strengthening ties between candidate countries and coordinating on common objectives had become increasingly important.
The meeting also focused on bilateral relations between Georgia and Serbia, including parliamentary cooperation, trade and tourism.
Papuashvili thanked Serbia for its support for Georgia's territorial integrity and reiterated Georgia's support for Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while Vučić highlighted the importance of finalising a free trade agreement between the two countries and expanding economic cooperation.
