Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has suggested that delays surrounding the accreditation of Georgia's ambassador to Germany are linked to the presence of Germany's ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Papuashvili said he believed there would be no progress on the issue while Fischer remains in his current post.

"Regarding the appointment of our ambassador to Germany, I think this is all connected to Peter Fischer. As long as he is here, there will be neither the presentation of credentials nor any correction to the website," Papuashvili said.

The parliament speaker argued that the situation was driven by what he described as Fischer's personal attitude towards the Georgian authorities.

"This is entirely the Peter Fischer factor. He has a personal hostility towards the Georgian government," Papuashvili said. "His attitude has become personal."

Papuashvili further claimed that no changes in Germany's approach towards Georgia would occur until Fischer leaves the country. He also criticised information published by Germany's Foreign Ministry, accusing it of spreading disinformation about Georgia.

Germany has not publicly responded to Papuashvili's latest remarks.
