Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday extended congratulations to the people of Turkey on the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, speaking at an event dedicated to the occasion.

He noted that the day offers a significant opportunity to pay tribute to the vision of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all those who laid the foundations of the modern Turkish state. He added their commitment to sovereignty, modern governance and progress transformed the country and continues to guide it today.

“Turkey is Georgia’s strategic ally, largest trading partner and a reliable neighbour. We highly appreciate Turkey’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its role in ensuring peace and stability in the Black Sea and South Caucasus region”, Papuashvili said.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries amid increasingly complex geopolitical circumstances.

“Sovereignty and respect for the democratic will of the people must remain the cornerstone of relations between independent nations. Any attempt to undermine popular sovereignty contradicts the essence of democracy”, he added.

Papuashvili also highlighted opportunities for expanding bilateral partnership, recalling his official visit to Turkey earlier this year and productive talks with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş. He expressed hope that his Turkish counterpart will visit Georgia soon.

He said Georgia and Turkey jointly create a “historic corridor of opportunities” linking Europe and Asia and contributing to economic growth and connectivity in the wider region. He welcomed recent positive developments toward stability in the South Caucasus, including progress in Armenia–Azerbaijan peace prospects and steps taken in the normalization process between Turkey and Armenia.

“On behalf of the Parliament of Georgia, I once again congratulate the Turkish people on the anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey. I wish peace, prosperity and continued success to the Turkish nation,” Papuashvili concluded, reaffirming Georgia’s commitment to strong friendship, cooperation and strategic partnership with Turkey.
