Shalva Papuashvili Meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, hosted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov.
According to the Parliament’s press service, the two sides positively assessed the long-standing cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan and highlighted the growing dynamic of high-level visits. It was noted that today’s meeting took place within the framework of the Foreign Minister’s first official visit to Georgia.
Shalva Papuashvili recalled his productive official visit to Uzbekistan last year and expressed readiness to welcome the Chairpersons of both chambers of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on a reciprocal visit to Georgia.
He also expressed gratitude for Uzbekistan’s firm support of Georgia’s territorial integrity.
The parties underscored the important role that parliaments play in the development of bilateral relations. They emphasized the memorandum of understanding signed between the legislative bodies of the two countries, as well as the ongoing cooperation between friendship groups, committees, and parliamentary administrations.
The meeting also addressed Georgia-Uzbekistan cooperation in the field of transport, with a focus on fully utilizing the potential of the Middle Corridor and improving connectivity with Central Asia.
Special attention was given to strengthening people-to-people ties through enhanced cultural and educational exchanges.
The importance of the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Georgia was also noted.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, Nikoloz Samkharadze; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili; and Georgia’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Davit Kotaria.
