Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has released a statement regarding an incident that occurred on Amagleba Street in Tbilisi, addressing public concerns and clarifying details circulating on social media.

According to the ministry, the incident began when patrol police stopped a moped driver for inspection. During the stop, a passerby driving a private vehicle, identified as G.K., born in 1993, approached the officers and verbally insulted them.

Law enforcement officers responded by requesting G.K. to undergo a breathalyzer and drug test based on reasonable suspicion. G.K. refused and became increasingly aggressive toward the police. As a result, officers detained him on the spot under Article 173 of the Administrative Offenses Code, which pertains to disobedience of lawful police orders.

During G.K.’s detention, a passenger from his vehicle physically assaulted a police officer, striking him in the face.

In addition, a bystander who attempted to interfere with the police during the arrest process became unwell at the scene.

The ministry noted that video footage circulating on social media only shows the final moments of the incident, lacking the full context. Authorities urged the public to refrain from attempts to discredit law enforcement officers and emphasized that all individuals involved will be subject to appropriate legal actions.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs will take all measures prescribed by law against those involved in the incident,” the statement concluded.
