The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Saturday reported that a foreign national who violated public order at Tbilisi International Airport in the Georgian capital city had been detained and deported from the country.

The body added that officers from the Migration Department and the Patrol Police Department jointly detained a German citizen, who was subsequently expelled from Georgia.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, when the person became aggressive while at Tbilisi International Airport, disrupted public order and verbally abused patrol police officers after being urged to comply with public order requirements, the Ministry said.

By a decision of the Tbilisi City Court, the German citizen was found guilty and the court imposed an administrative fine of ₾4,000 ($1,484.48), ordered deportation from Georgia and banned the individual from entering the country for three years.

The Ministry also noted that recent amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons have improved mechanisms for deporting both legally and illegally residing foreign nationals, providing a clear legal basis for expulsion when warranted.
