Georgian law enforcement officials have seized significant amounts of narcotics from a clandestine laboratory, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
The body said officers from the Central Criminal Police Department discovered the makeshift lab in a residential property in the village of Misaktsieli, in Mtskheta municipality, where narcotics were being manufactured. Confiscated substances included alpha-PVP, mephedrone, and clephedrone in both crystal and liquid forms. Authorities noted that clephedrone was particularly dangerous, with consumption often resulting in fatal outcomes.
Investigators said evidence indicates that the suspects used various chemicals and precursors along with specialised equipment to produce narcotics for sale through multiple channels.
Law enforcement seized the following during searches of the suspects’ residence, personal belongings and vehicles: up to 35 grams of alpha-PVP, nearly 0.5 kilograms of clephedrone, and up to four liters of mephedrone solution. Additional materials confiscated included packaging supplies, an electric scale, adhesive tapes, resealable polyethylene bags, and glass containers of various sizes.
The crimes carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
