About 390 Georgian social workers continue to strike despite the decision of the country’s health ministry to meet their one demand on the increase of salaries.

The ministry says that the salaries of social workers will increase and the increase is adequate compared to their workload.’

As of now the monthly salary for a social worker is 200-250 GEL plus bonuses.

The ministry says that after the increase in salaries a social worker will receive 400 GEL instead of 250 and a senior social worker will receive 700 GEL instead of 550 GEL.

The ministry also says that for an interview with a family a social worker will get 10 GEL instead of 4.8 GEL.

The social workers say that the offered salary is ‘inadequate’ compared with the current economic situation and inflation in the country.

They also say that the ministry never compensates transportation expenses and extra hours.
