The Georgian government has increased electricity subsidies for socially vulnerable and large families, aiming to offset the impact of newly set tariffs and keep household bills unchanged for eligible groups.
Under the decision, households with a social rating score below 70,000 will receive an additional subsidy of 5 tetri per kilowatt-hour (kWh). In total, they will now be compensated based on the difference between earlier tariff levels, plus 8.5 tetri per kWh-up from the previous 3.5 tetri.
Families with a rating score between 70,000 and 150,000 will receive a subsidy of 8.5 tetri per kWh for up to 200 kWh of electricity consumption. This also marks an increase from the previous 3.5 tetri per kWh.
The changes apply nationwide, except in the capital, Tbilisi.
Additional support has also been introduced for large, vulnerable families. Monthly electricity assistance has increased from 20 lari to 30 lari, with a further 10 lari provided for each additional child.
The updated subsidy scheme came into force on 1 April.
