Strong winds have damaged more than 1,000 private and public buildings in the country’s western Samegrelo municipality over the past several days, the local authorities said on Friday.

The local officials said the winds had damaged the roofs of 966 private houses and 38 residential buildings, two ambulatory buildings, five kindergartens, five public schools, three public school halls, and 10 administrative buildings.

Electricity is not supplied to 114 administrative units.

The government has called on locals to refrain from leaving homes, as a fallen tree killed one on Friday.
