A support rally was held in Tbilisi for Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of independent media outlets Batumelebi and Netgazeti.

Citizens began the march at the Philharmonic and proceeded to Rustaveli Avenue, carrying banners reading “Freedom for Mzia” and “Freedom for Political Prisoners.”

The protest was attended by journalists, civil society activists, and opposition politicians.

Earlier today, the Batumi City Court sentenced Mzia Amaglobeli to two years in prison. Judge Nino Sakhelashvili requalified the charges and found her guilty under Article 353, Part 1 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to resistance, threats, or violence against a public order defender or government representative.
