Tbilisi City Hall has announced plans to begin the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue, one of the Georgian capital’s main squares, in May.

Mayor Kakha Kaladze said the initial phase of the project would focus on upgrading underground infrastructure, including pipelines and electrical wiring. This will require sections of the road to be excavated.

Rustaveli Avenue has been the focal point of pro-European demonstrations for the past 84 days, with protesters calling for new elections and the release of detained demonstrators.
