The Tbilisi authorities on Thursday urged citizens to use winter tires while driving in the city to prevent incidents due to slippery roads.

The Tbilisi City Hall said due to the snowfall in the capital, its Tbilservice Group continued road cleaning and technical salting works.

David Pachulia, the head of the service, said about 350 workers had been involved in the road cleaning work round the clock.

He stressed not only central roads and squares, but also curbs, underpasses, stairs and stops were being cleaned.

“In total, more than 1,000 tons of salt have been poured over the last few days. More than 30 special vehicles are involved in the work. Priority is given to first-category streets where municipal transport moves. We are coordinating with the patrol police and the Tbilisi Transport Company, and messages received on the hotline are not left unanswered”, he said.
