Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has responded to the recent decision of imprisoned third president Mikheil Saakashvili to go on hunger strike again and said that it is up to Saakashvili ‘whether to go on hunger strike or to eat as much as he wishes.’

Saakashvili said yesterday that he had no access to a quality medical service and said that he would go on hunger strike for the government to ensure this.

Kaladze said that Saakashvili has no levers to make an influence on the country’s political agenda.  The ruling party authorities say that Saakashvili has received all necessary services in the Georgian prison.

They also say that neither Saakashvili nor his United National Movement party have public support.
