A man has been detained in Tbilisi on suspicion of intentional murder, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said on Friday.

The suspect, identified as I.E. and born in 2000, has been accused of fatally wounding a foreign national, born in 1989, inside an apartment in the capital. Investigators said the victim sustained fatal injuries inflicted with a knife.

The suspect fled the scene after the incident. Several hours later, he voluntarily appeared at a police station, where he confessed to the crime and handed over the weapon used.

Following investigative procedures, he was formally detained as a defendant.

The crime carries a possible sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
