A protest march is underway in Tbilisi in support of Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, who was arrested earlier this month.

Political parties and activists are marching from Marjanishvili to Rustaveli, demanding Amaghlobeli’s immediate release.

Amaglobeli was detained in Batumi on January 12 and is facing charges under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to assault on a police officer. She has been on a hunger strike for 19 days in protest of her imprisonment.

Supporters claim her arrest is politically motivated and represents an attack on press freedom in Georgia.
