The Berlin International Film Festival opens today. In parallel with the grand opening of the film festival, the National Film Center will offer viewers an online retrospective of Georgian films participating in the Berlinale. Like the film festival, the restorative will be held in two parts, in March and June.

The March program is already known:

March 6 – "Journey of a Young Composer"

"The Journey of a Young Composer" by legendary Georgian director Giorgi Shengelaia was the first Georgian film to be screened at the Berlinale on behalf of the Soviet Union in 1986, laying the groundwork for cooperation between Georgia and the Berlin International Film Festival. The film was presented in the main competition of the festival and was awarded the "Silver Bear" for best director.

March 13 – "Sleeping Sun"

Temur Babluani's popular film "Sleeping Sun" turned out to be another Georgian film that brought "Silver Bear" to Georgia. The film 1993 participated in the main competition of the festival, already on behalf of independent Georgia. (National Film Center would like to thank the Public Broadcaster for providing the film).

March 20 – "There-With Me"

In 1992, Zaza Khalvashi was a young, talented director, for whom the film "There-Me" was a successful start. The work was presented in the "Forum" section and since then it has been shown at numerous international film festivals.

March 27 – "City of the Sun"

Director and producer Rati Oneli presented the documentary "City of the Sun" at the Berlinale in 2017. It was shown in the "Forum" section. The film has received numerous prestigious international awards.

Online screenings of the films will be held at the Cinema Club of the National Film Center at 22:00. To join the movie club, go to this link.

The Berlin International Film Festival is one of the major film events in the world, which, along with the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals, is one of the top three film festivals in Europe.
