The chair of the United National Movement, Tina Bokuchava, on Monday said the opposition should not attach excessive importance to whether ruling party founder Bidzina Ivanishvili would disband his party or use legal leverage as pressure against political opponents. Instead, she stressed, the focus must remain on decisive action.

“A dictatorship is being formed in our country and our international partners are openly talking about this. But if we do not organise ourselves domestically, the activation of strong and effective sanctions against Ivanishvili and his entourage will be further delayed”, Bokuchava said.

“Whether Ivanishvili abolishes his party, files lawsuits and uses these threats like the Sword of Damocles against political figures or parties - we should not give this too much importance. We must act”, she added/

Bokuchava said what she refers to as a “Russian special operation”, October 4 elections, also involved a targeted trap, in which she believes current or former members of Georgian Dream took part.

She noted that organisers of the so-called “peaceful overthrow” on October 4 had spoken openly about planned “surprises”, including the release of compromising material.

Bokuchava added that she had requested Paata Burchuladze attend a meeting of the party’s political council to clarify any plans or alleged links related to these developments, but “unfortunately, such information was not provided”.
