Former President Donald Trump announced that he is revoking former President Joe Biden’s access to classified national security information and daily intelligence briefings, citing “no need” for the former president to retain such privileges.

In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed Biden had set this precedent in 2021 when he denied Trump access to intelligence briefings following the January 6 Capitol attack, citing concerns over Trump’s “erratic” behavior. At the time, the White House stated that intelligence officials would still review Trump’s requests on a case-by-case basis.

Trump also referenced former Special Counsel Robert Hur’s recent report on Biden’s handling of classified documents, which described Biden as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” The report has fueled Republican criticism of Biden’s cognitive abilities as he seeks re-election in 2024.

Traditionally, former presidents retain access to classified information as a courtesy. It remains unclear when Biden last received a classified briefing or whether Trump’s claim carries any official weight. The White House and Biden’s legal team have not yet commented on Trump’s statement.
