Maj. Serhiy Volyna of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of Ukraine, whose forces have been holding out in the Azovstal plant of Mariupol, has called on the world leaders to ensure the transfer of soldiers and civilians from the besieged plant to the territory of the third country.
“We may have only a few days or hours left. The enemy outnumbers us 10 times. We have more than 500 wounded soldiers. We appeal to all world leaders to help us. We ask them to take us to the territory of a third state,” said Volyna in his recent video address.
Russians, which invaded Ukraine on February 24, issued a deadline earlier Tuesday for the Ukrainians to give up their arms and exit the iron and steel plant which Ukraiinians refused to accept.
Volyna, who has fought in Mariupol since the very first days of invasion, gave a rare glimpse into the lives of the soldiers and hundreds of civilians, including women and children inside the steel plant that has caught the world’s attention as the fall of the city looms, the Washington Post said following an interview with Volyna earlier this week.
