The United Nations Security Council is poised to vote on a resolution over the Gaza ceasefire.

The United States, traditionally known for its veto stance on similar resolutions concerning Gaza, is set to present a draft resolution urging an “immediate cease-fire” to the UN Security Council late on Friday.

Meanwhile, Russia advocates for clearer demands from the international community.

Since the commencement of the military operation in the Gaza Strip on October 7, with Israel’s stated objective of dismantling Hamas, the US has consistently exercised its veto power in the UN Security Council, thwarting attempts to secure an immediate cessation of hostilities in the Palestinian territory.

Israel initiated the military action in response to an attack by Hamas militants. The incursion into southern Israel on October 7 resulted in 1,200 fatalities and 240 individuals being held hostage. The Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip has claimed the lives of over 32,000 people, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis in the region.
