The United National Movement (UNM) opposition party MP Levan Khabeishvili has announced a large rally in Tbilisi and requested the party supporters in social media to send him contact information to be informed on a date of the rally.
“The whole of Georgia must stand up,”Khabeishvili wrote on Facebook.
The UNM held a rally at Rustavi prison yesterday where Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili is placed for now.
Saakashvili, the founder of the UNM, was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1.
He returned after eight years in Georgia to help the UNM win the October 2 municipal elections and change the Georgian Dream government via an early parliamentary election.
Saakashvili was convicted in absentia in Georgia for abuse of authority in 2018 and the current government says that he will not be able to leave the country until he serves his prison term.
Saakashvili is a citizen of Ukraine and currently chairs the executive committee of the Ukrainian National Reforms Council.
