The PM’s initiative to build a 1,000-apartment residence for policemen in Tbilisi is a “political bribery” which will also allow the government officials to earn billions of GEL via their own or affiliated construction companies, UNM MP Roman Gotsiridze told Front News today.
Gotsiiridze, who chaired the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) under the UNM government, says that real support meant the increase in “degrading” salaries for law enforcement officers “which would allow them to buy flats themselve.”
He stated that if the authorities were motivated to help policemen, they could also subsidize loans for them to buy already built apartments.
“However, the government has a different goal and the goal is to earn billions through the budget,” Gotsiridze said.
Garibashvili has announced the launch of a large-scale construction programme which will include dozens of new schools, renovation of a number of educational institutions and a block of flats with 1,000 apartments for police officers in capital Tbilisi.
He said that the total amount of state funding in the project will range between 2.5,- 2.3 billion GEL.
