The United National Movement opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze has told Front News that the introduction of a temporary visa regime with Russia will half the mass inflow of Russians in Georgia amid sanctions on their country for its invasion of Ukraine.
The Georgian economy minister stated earlier today that about 20,000-25,000 Russian citizens have entered Georgia in recent days.
Gotsiridze says that the influx of Russians is a complicated issue and needs to be considered.
He has slammed the Georgian Dream government for not allowing a journalist, who was critical to the Russian authorities, while permitting others into the country.
“The solution in this situation will be to impose a temporary visa regime, i.e. not to close it completely, but to impose more control,” Gotsiridze said.
Georgia has a visa free regime with Russia, while Georgians need a visa to enter Russia.
