An MP of the United National Movement (UNM) party Roman Gotsiridze has called on former PM under the Georgian Dream (GD) authorities, now in the opposition, Giorgi Gakharia to support the parliamentary opposition create a commission in the state legislature to investigate “inhuman treatment” towards imprisoned ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Gotsiiridze said on Tuesday that the opposition needs “just a single signature” to create the commission, telling Gakharia that “if you are the opposition, allow your party members to put the signature.”
He claimed that the move “will help Gakharia to wash away his sins” while in office.
“All the levers will be used, including the parliament, rallies and the international community to ensure Saakashvili’s transfer abroad for treatment. Here is no chance for him to receive treatment,” Gotsiridze said.
Saakashvili, who was arrested in Georgia in October 2021 after eight years in political exile, says his health has deteriorated much.
However, the Georgian Dream authorities claim that all services are available for him in prison, noting that Saakashvili “refuses himself to receive several of the services.”
