The United National Movement (UNM) opposition party has suspended boycotting the state legislature and said that they will submit an application for the creation of the parliamentary investigative commission into alleged degrading and inhuman treatment towards imprisoned ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.
The party says that the parliament has turned into a ‘camp of rivals’ because of the ruling Georgian Dream party, ‘but we will use the platform anyway.’
The UNM refused to enter parliament after the 2020 parliamentary race, stating that the elections were fabricated. In early June 2021 the party MPs decided to take up their mandates, however, after journalists were attacked by right-wing activists during Tbilisi Pride events in July of the last year, the UNM boycotted the sessions again.
The party said that the government did not take actions to prevent conflicts during Tbilisi Pride.
