Up to 20,000 Ukrainians in Georgia, including 5,500 minors – Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine

Up to 20,000 Ukrainian citizens have entered Georgia since the beginning of the war on February 24, of which 5,500 are minors, Andrey Kasyanov, the Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine in Georgia said on Wednesday.

 

He said he expected there would be no problems with the placement of Ukrainian refugees in Georgia.

 

“In coordination with the Government of Georgia, as well as in cooperation with the UN High Commissioner, we are taking all necessary measures to meet the basic requirements. Some of the citizens of Ukraine are already employed in various fields in Georgia. Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili has pledged to allocate $7 million in support for Ukrainians.

 

“We expect that the relevant decisions will be made by the government in the coming days and there will be no problems with the placement of Ukrainian refugees in Georgia, We expect this from June 1,” Kasyanov said.

 

He thanked the Georgian government for its support, including the opening of an Ukrainian sector in several Georgian schools.
