The US Embassy in Georgia issued a statement regarding the so-called presidential elections and the recently announced referendum in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region, saying the breakaway Abkhazia and Tskhinvali were ‘integral parts’ of Georgia and no election or referendum could change it.

The embassy also pointed out Russia’s attacks on civilians in Ukraine, highlighting the importance of defending the fundamental principles of international security.

“Russia’s brutal, unprovoked, and unjustified war deliberately attacking Ukrainian civilians and cities makes it even more important to stand up for these fundamental principles that are the foundation of the international security architechture,” they wrote.

The embassy urged Russia to stop the war in Ukraine and withdraw its forces from the Georgian territories.
