US Senate approves resolution in support of Ukraine

The US Senate has voted overwhelmingly in support of Ukraine amid fears that Russia may invade the country.

The resolution condemned Russia’s military aggression and warned Russia for possible negative consequences if it took the step. The resolution does not carry the force of law but puts the US congress on record with “unwavering United States support for a secure, democratic, and independent Ukraine” and “denounces the Russian military buildup” on Ukraine’s border. 

The vote was unanimous. 

Russia says that it has no plans to attack Ukraine. However, the US states that it has added 7,000 soldiers to more than 100,000 troops which are currently at the Ukrainian border.
