US urges Russia to demonstrate commitment to ending Ukraine conflict

The United States has called on Russia to show genuine intent in pursuing peace in Ukraine, emphasizing that the international community awaits a clear response from Moscow.​

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that President Donald Trump has made it clear that the ongoing conflict must conclude swiftly and decisively. “The civilized world is waiting to see if Russia is serious,” she remarked, highlighting the urgency of the situation.​

During recent diplomatic engagements, including meetings in Paris and discussions with European allies, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed a framework for sustainable peace to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Bruce noted that this proposal received an “encouraging reception” from international partners.

Rubio emphasized the necessity for both Russia and Ukraine to demonstrate a serious commitment to the peace process. “The time for peace is now, not months or years from now,” he asserted. He also indicated that the US would not continue diplomatic efforts indefinitely without substantial progress, underscoring the need for tangible results in the near future.
