US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said on Monday that his country would not tolerate meddling in its elections.

“We all know, especially now, that free and fair elections are the cornerstone of American society and American democracy,” he said.

Price recalled that back in 2018, the United States imposed sanctions against [Yevgeny] Prigozhin, his so-called Internet Research Agency (often described as an “internet troll farm”), and against Russia itself in 2021. Sanctions were also imposed on Iran over election interference.

“We are ready to do the same against any country or organization that tries to interfere in our democratic processes,” Price said.

According to Yevgeny Prigozhin, a Russian businessman close to the Kremlin, Russia interfered, is interfering and will interfere in the US elections “carefully, precisely, surgically, as we know it”.

Prigozhin is on the sanctions list for meddling in the US election and is wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He is believed to be the owner of the St. Petersburg-based Internet Research Agency.
