The ruling party Georgian Dream is primarily motivated by an unconditional desire to retain power, said Valeri Chechelashvili, head of political research at the Georgian Strategic Analysis Center.
According to him, the party views holding new, free, and fair elections in a democratic environment as its main challenge.
“Georgian Dream’s main motivation is to stay in power at all costs. This is why they see new, free, and fair elections as a major threat,” he stressed.
Chechelashvili also noted that while he was not present at the recent meeting between the US Ambassador and Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili, he believes the discussion likely included key steps the ruling party must take.
“I assume that among these steps were the announcement of new elections and the release of political prisoners. The tensions between Georgian Dream and the US and EU revolve around these issues,” he added.
