Georgian Parliament Vice-Speaker, former parliament chair Archil Talakvadze has responded to the calls of 22 NGOs to the state authorities for them to express a ‘clear support’ for Ukraine and stated that ‘several media outlets and NGOs serve the interests of the radical opposition.’

He said today that the Georgian Dream government ‘is doing its utmost’ in support of Ukraine and that  the ‘radical opposition’ is trying to spark ‘artificial tension’ to remain in politics and benefit their own ‘narrow political interests.’

“Georgian territories are occupied and we know very well what military aggression is. A bankrupt United National Movement opposition party is trying to use the Ukrainian topic for its interests. Some NGOs  founded by them and the media outlets controlled by them are busy attacking the government, their own country and constantly trying to get Georgia to take the  steps that would be unjustified at this moment,” Talakvadze said.

He stated that NGOs have chosen the language of ultimatum to the government which is ‘incomprehensible.’

The NGOs released a statement today in which they called on the government to express a clearer position to the Russia-Ukraine war and ‘give up threatening the Georgian people with war.’
