The World Health Organization is urging countries to suspend third-dose coronavirus vaccination by at least the end of September, as the gap between the numbers of those vaccinated in rich and poor countries is widening.

“I understand the concern of all governments to protect their populations from the Delta option, but we do not want countries that have already used most of their global supply of vaccines to use even more,” said Tedros Adhano Gebreiusus, director general of the World Health Organization.

According to the World Health Organization in May, about 50 doses of the vaccine were used for every 100 people in high-income countries, and that number has doubled by this time.

Even in low-income countries, 1.5 doses of the vaccine are used for every 100 people due to a lack of vaccine”- said Tedros Adhano Gebreiusus.
