Georgian political analyst Zaal Anjaparidze has defended Tbilisi’s treatment of the British ambassador, following the UK Foreign Office’s decision to summon Georgia’s Chargé d’Affaires in London over what it called “false accusations and public attacks” by the Georgian government against its partners, including the United Kingdom.

Anjaparidze said the British envoy had been “spoken to as he deserved” by Georgia’s Foreign Ministry and reminded that he was serving in “an independent and sovereign country.”

“Britain has apparently singled out Georgia as a target in order to satisfy its neocolonial passions,” Anjaparidze wrote, suggesting that Western criticism was part of a broader effort to undermine Georgia’s autonomy. “Let them be offended,” he added, referring to the UK reaction to the diplomatic exchange.
