Georgian Analyst Zaal Anjaparidze on Friday claimed that the explosive materials found in two Ukrainian citizens detained in the country were intended for use within Georgian territory, not transit elsewhere, and linked the plot to official Ukrainian structures.

“New, interesting, and at the same time alarming information emerges regarding the Ukrainian citizens detained yesterday with explosives. The cause for concern is that the explosive material - hexogen, which is 10 times more powerful than TNT - was not meant to be transported elsewhere via Georgia. It was supposed to remain in Georgia and be used here,” Anjaparidze wrote on social media.

He said this was not the work of an informal radical or terrorist group, but an action planned by Ukraine’s Security Service against Georgia. He praised Georgian security services for neutralising the threat.

“This should serve as a stimulus for all to remain vigilant. Prophylactic measures should be taken regarding Ukrainians in the country. The rest should be handled by the professionals in the field,” Anjaparidze added.
