Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that progress is being made in negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, adding that Kyiv expects further steps on opening negotiation clusters this month.
“We have a very clear timetable for advancing the negotiations, especially following changes in Hungary. We have met our deadlines. Now, in June, we very much hope to move forward with the opening of the clusters prepared by Ukraine. We have done our part and now it is up to the European Union to take the next step,” Zelenskyy said.
The President noted that his team is in almost daily contact with EU officials.
“This is very important for our motivation and for the motivation of our people. Every positive message from the European Union confirms that Ukraine is on the right path and that our partners are with us,” he added.
Zelenskyy also said work is ongoing to ensure Ukraine receives funds from a €90 billion European support package, which he said had already been approved.
“We fought for this package and it was approved. Procedurally, it is necessary that the funds are made available to Ukraine this summer for our resilience, our defence and support for our people. And this will happen,” he said.
