Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Thursday that Germany and Norway have agreed to fund three US-manufactured Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine, amid ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s defensive capabilities.
"Germany is ready to fund two systems, and Norway is prepared to finance one more," Zelenskyy stated, adding that Ukraine is in ongoing discussions with both European and US partners regarding the procurement of additional military aid packages.
The support packages under discussion include Patriot systems and their accompanying missiles, artillery, and other critical defense equipment vital to bolstering Ukraine’s army.
“We have a positive dialogue with President Trump about the Patriot systems. My request is for 10 Patriot systems along with a sufficient number of missiles,” Zelensky said. He noted that once Ukraine receives clear answers from the manufacturers regarding delivery timelines, other European partners are expected to join the initiative.
“This is the current financing model for the American Patriot systems. We already have a sense of where the funding will begin,” he concluded.
Ukraine has been urgently appealing to its allies for enhanced air defense amid intensified Russian missile and drone strikes, which have targeted critical infrastructure and civilian areas.
