Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday condemned a Russian strike on the Sloviansk thermal power plant that killed two people and left several others injured.
“Several hours ago, a strike was carried out on the Sloviansk thermal power station - by Russian bombs. Unfortunately, two people were killed. My condolences to their families. There are also wounded. This is pure terror. Normal people do not fight like this and the world must respond adequately to such a Russian war”, Zelenskyy said.
The President added that Ukraine has secured agreements with Norway to support gas purchases, and with Germany, Italy and the Netherlands to provide equipment for restoring electricity generation.
The attack on Sloviansk followed another massive overnight wave of Russian missile and drone strikes on Thursday, targeting energy infrastructure across Ukraine. Explosions were reported in Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia and several western regions.
Ukrainian authorities said multiple thermal power plants across the country sustained serious damage, with emergency crews currently carrying out clearing and repair operations. October has seen a renewed surge in Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities.
