Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia could agree to a full ceasefire without additional conditions, but achieving this would require increased pressure from the United States.
“Ukraine has demonstrated—and everyone emphasizes this—our willingness for a complete and unconditional ceasefire. We set no conditions, and Russia has no right to impose any,” Zelenskyy said during a meeting with business representatives in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
He reaffirmed that Ukraine opposes lifting sanctions on Russia in exchange for a ceasefire, a stance supported by EU countries.
According to Zelenskyy, Russia is avoiding a truce because it still hopes for military gains. He pointed to Moscow’s plans for offensives in the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions, which have so far been unsuccessful.
“I believe that increased pressure and dialogue with the Americans will eventually lead us to a ceasefire,” he concluded.
