Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday said the country’s defence forces have struck two Russian oil tankers in the waters near the port of Novorossiysk.
Zelenskyy added the vessels were used for transporting oil and were part of Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet”, which has been linked to efforts to bypass international sanctions.
“Our forces continue to enforce sanctions against Russia’s shadow oil fleet — we struck two such vessels at the entrance to the port of Novorossiysk,” the President said.
He thanked Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov, Ukraine’s Security Service counterintelligence units and the Ukrainian Navy for carrying out the operation.
Zelenskyy added that Ukraine’s long-range capabilities would continue to expand across sea, air and land.
“Ukraine’s long-range capabilities will be comprehensive — at sea, in the air and on land. Glory to Ukraine,” he said.
